DIY: split heart art - simple prints

I find I am always looking for small pieces of art to hang up in my room, however they always cost a small fortune. I decided to give it a go myself with a couple diy materials I had around the house.

This Diy takes minutes, and can be done while your sitting outside catching the last sun rays of summer!

What you need:

Paint - Acrylic or left over house paint

2 Canvas' (square size) - I used two wooden blocks I got from Michaels for $1!

Cup of water

Sponge Brush - 1-2 inch wide

Paint Brush- for fixing up design

I chose the colour plum a nice dark, warm shade I thought would go well with the furniture in my room.

Lay your canvas' side by side how you want them to hang in your. Sketch your design out in pencil so you know what will fall on each canvas.

 

Pour the paint out and mix to ensure it is not watery and an equal consistency.

Go over the sketch with the paint- using the sponge brush. This doesn't have to be perfect its just a base.

Get the thinner brush and touch up any areas you want a thicker line, darker colour or a better shape. Make sure you don't have a dog around to push your arm.... then your stuck with a much wider line then you wanted (I might be speaking from experience!)

Once it looks how you want, put it up in the perfect spot in your room. There you have it some new art in less then 10 minutes!

DIY Studded Shorts

Hey Everyone! 

Here's a DIY that many people have done, so I decided to try it! What you need are a pair of shorts, chalk, a ruler and studs. 

First  you decide where you want to put the studs. You can lay the studs on top of the shorts without piercing them into the fabric. Try putting them in different spots and see which you like best!

Next I used the ruler and chalk to create a straight line for the studs. 

 

Now you begin putting the studs into the shorts. There are spikes at the bottom of the studs that you put into the shorts. They will poke through to the other side of the shorts and you push down the spikes so they lay flat on the material.  Continue with one stud at a time until the desired pattern. 

After completing your pattern the shorts will be done!

DIY: Canvas Art

In need of some new art for your bedroom to bring some colour? This DIY: Canvas Art piece is easy to make and can be customized to suit you! The combination of paint and gold leaf add a twist to this piece. 

Pick your favourite paint colours (guache or acrylic) || Choose any size canvas you like (mine was 8"x10")

1. Start by mixing your colours, you dont want the paint to be too watery or too thick.

2. Paint on to the canvas, up to where you want your gold leaf to go.

3. Place a clean paintbrush into the mod podge (or glue) and paint a light coat onto the canvas where the gold leaf is to be placed.

4. Start by gently placing the gold leaf down with a clean finger (remember it is delicate). Lightly press into place covering large spaces.

5. Now take a clean paintbrush with mod podge on, and gently press on top of the laid gold leaf. Do not move back and fourth as this will move the gold leaf, instead gently press up and down to press the gold leaf into place and seal.

6. Make sure to cover all spaces necessary, completing the strip of gold leaf.

7. Ta Da there you have it! Your new art piece ready to be hung. Allow a couple hours for drying and to allow the gold leaf to set.

 So give it a go and tweet a pic of your masterpiece!

DIY: military vest

Well its finally spring! That means it's time to remove those heavy layers, and show some skin!

A few weeks ago I bought a military jacket from a vintage military shop in Kensington. Well I finally managed to find some time to make it into a vest. 

The finished product!

 This vest helps transition into the cooler days of spring with layers without the added bulk of jacket sleeves over light sweaters. Be creative with your accessories  and don't be afraid to mix textures while wearing it to help transition from day to night.

Halloween

Happy Halloween! What are all your creative halloween costumes?

Last night me and my friends celebrated not only halloween, but also the end of our busy week filled with midterms. 

I was a loofah, I put the costume together myself, using a cheap tank dress, about 20 metres of tulle and a couple hours of hand sewing! But I loved the way it came out. 

For my makeup, I kept it simple with my natural look and then I wore some false lashes from MAC for fun. I then added some highlighter on my cheeks and nose for that extra glow you would get.
